Aloko Kathina 2023

A Season of Harmony and Dedication
Amidst the serene ambiance of the Aloko Buddhist Center, three monks embarked on a harmonious three-month observance, culminating in a joyous Kathina celebration. Their dedication and unwavering commitment to the Dhamma filled the center with an aura of tranquility and spiritual upliftment. During this period, they conducted thirteen poojas, each infused with heartfelt blessings for the well-being of all.
A Generous Sponsorship and a Warm Invitation

This year’s Kathina was graciously sponsored by Mr. Pandula Kohilawatta and his family. Residing in Dayton, Ohio, USA, they were unable to physically attend the invitation event. In their stead, Mr. Shan Rajapaksha and his family stepped forward, extending a warm invitation to the monks and expressing their intention to sponsor the Kathina on behalf of Mr. Kohilawatta and his family.

Venerable Dapane Sumanadhamma, accompanied by Venerable Kotapola Rahula, accepted this generous invitation and commenced the rainy retreat at the Aloko Buddhist Center. Venerable Ginnaliye Dhammaloka joined the retreat the following month, on the full moon day, upon his return from the USA.

Thirteen Heartfelt Poojas

Throughout the three-month observance, the monks performed thirteen heartfelt poojas, each imbued with blessings for the well-being of all. These poojas were dedicated to the distinguished Diamond, Golden, and Silver Pillar Donors, whose generosity played a pivotal role in supporting the Aloko Buddhist Center’s endeavors. A notable highlight was the donation of a microphone by Mr. William and his friends, a valuable addition that will enhance the center’s ability to conduct spiritual events and share the teachings of the Buddha.

Community Support and Temple Enhancement

One month before the Kathina Day, a public poster was shared on Facebook, inviting friends and supporters to contribute to the event by sponsoring various aspects, including temple maintenance, monks’ requisites, and Cheevara Pooja (robe offerings).

Within a short span, Brother Donny Loo and Mrs. Lim, along with their kind-hearted Dhamma friends from Malaysia, pledged their support for the temple maintenance project. Their selfless contribution resulted in the tiling of the pavement and painting of the temple, creating a welcoming ambiance for the Kathina ceremony.

Sister Mallika, an active member of the Aloko Buddhist Center, made the first donation towards the monks’ requisites. However, as the event approached, there remained a shortage of sponsors for the robes and monks’ requisites.

A Helping Hand and Peace of Heart

At this crucial juncture, Mdm. Lee Sew Mee, with her boundless compassion, stepped forward to complete the fundraising efforts. Her generosity brought immense relief and assurance to the Aloko Buddhist Center team.

A Culmination of Generosity and Devotion

Thanks to the unwavering support of hundreds of kind and devoted devotees, the Kathina ceremony concluded with resounding success at the Aloko Buddhist Center on 13th November 2023. A heartfelt SADHU! is extended to all who contributed to this meritorious endeavor, both physically and mentally, with no exceptions.

Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
