A Story of Perseverance and Generosity
On September 4th, we shared a poster titled “Donor Required” across our social media, hoping to support a university student in desperate need of a laptop. Her old computer had broken beyond repair, and without it, continuing her education was impossible.
For a week, despite our best efforts to spread the word, we received no responses from donors. Discouraged, we began considering taking the post down and giving up on the initiative.
However, at that very moment, amidst a fundraising campaign for the Aloko Vihara’s monks’ quarter led by Mrs. Lim and Brother Donny, something extraordinary happened. During discussions about transferring funds to Sri Lanka, Brother Donny expressed his willingness to contribute to the laptop donation. He had a little extra, enough to revive this project. Overwhelmed, I shared, “I almost gave up.”
A few moments later, Mrs. Selina Lew, his wife, graciously offered to cover the remaining amount needed to purchase the laptop. Thanks to their immense generosity, on September 9th, we were able to buy the laptop and hand it over to the student.
Her tears of joy, along with the kindness of the donors, deeply touched all of us. We feel blessed and proud to have witnessed such an act of compassion.
A big Sadhu to all who contributed. May you rejoice in this charitable deed, and may you and your families always be blessed with everything your hearts desire.
With Metta,
Bhanthe Dhammaloka and Team Aloko
